Trinket Tuesday: Globe That Shows Its Location On Itself

This is the start of a segment that I'm going to call Trinket Tuesday. I will be going over a different trinket every Tuesday. Some of them will be a different trinket from my system: A Crucible for Silver each week. I will throw in a few random trinkets I come up with because magical trinkets are very fun to think of and play around with.

1. Globe that shows its location on itself.

My goal for any trinket is to have something that is both incredibly powerful but also limited in scope. I want the trinket to be able to break the game but only if my players decide to put in the time to do so.

This trinket was inspired, like many of my trinkets, by the works of Jorge Luis Borges. I do not recall any specific story of his with something like this but it has echos of the Aleph. I like the ideas of sets that contain themselves so the idea of a globe that contains itself tickles my fancy. At the very least the players can use it to ease some traveling and navigation woes.

It also gives a nice hook between the players and the setting which at first seems a daunting task with the limitless feeling of needing to provide a whole globe. But the globe is a trick, as the scale is going to be so small as to only be a little bit usable for the players until they are really trying to exploit it. 6 mile hexes are colossal spaces: https://coinsandscrolls.blogspot.com/2019/06/osr-sienas-6-mile-hex.html and a globe is even more colossal a space. So large a space that there is basically infinite playing space for you and your players within and this can be created and used as you and your group need.

If you enjoyed this I would recommend check out my system: A Crucible For Silver. It is currently free in its alpha form but I may eventually create a paid for form of it.
